Thank You Seymour Papert for Making a Difference
In high school geometry class, I made this little triangle my teacher called a “turtle” draw a cartoon-ish bomb on a computer screen then blow up with a BAM! Today I’d be sent to the counselors office probably, but at the time I had unwittingly both done my first programming and had my first encounter with the ideas of Seymour Papert. I would later read his books, cite him countless times, and teach in a way that would have made him proud.
When Metiri heard he had passed, we had some trouble confirming the information through traditional media sources. While they eventually caught up, we suppose the release and spread of the information primarily on social media was sadly appropriate. Education lost a giant, but his work will live on in reference lists far and wide, and in those of us who believed in his vision.
Rest in peace Dr. Papert, and thank you.
